The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires every business to have a suitable and sufficient Fire Risk Assessment in place, reviewed and updated regularly. We have been carrying out assessments since 2006, helping clients keep their people and premises safe.
Our assessments follow the methodology of the PAS 79 British Standard. Our assessor trained at the Fire Service College and is a member of the British Fire Services Association and the Institute of Fire Prevention Officers, bringing an extensive background in the emergency services and fire safety.
What is a Fire Risk Assessment?
It is a thorough inspection of your building and its fixtures. It gives the responsible person clear recommendations on preventing fire, limiting its spread, and making sure employees are protected and can escape safely should a fire occur.
Depending on the size and complexity of your premises, an assessment typically takes between 30 and 90 minutes on site, followed by a written report you can act on and keep for your records.

QUESTIONS
Is a fire risk assessment a legal requirement?
Yes. Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, every non-domestic premises must have a suitable and sufficient fire risk assessment, kept up to date. It is one of the main legal duties for any business, landlord or organisation responsible for a building.
Who is responsible for making sure a fire risk assessment is done?
The law places this duty on the “responsible person”, usually the employer, owner, landlord or whoever is in control of the premises. If you are that person, it is your responsibility to make sure a suitable assessment is carried out and acted upon, and we can do that for you.
Does my fire risk assessment need to be written down?
Yes. Since October 2023, all responsible persons must record their fire risk assessment in full, whatever the size of the business. Previously this only applied to those with five or more employees. Every assessment we carry out comes with a written report you can keep and act on.
How often should a fire risk assessment be reviewed?
There is no single fixed interval, but your assessment must be reviewed regularly and updated whenever something significant changes, such as building work, a change of use, more people on site, or after a fire or near miss. Many businesses review theirs each year, and we can help you keep it current.
What does a fire risk assessment involve?
We carry out a thorough inspection of your building, looking at fire hazards and ignition sources, escape routes and exits, fire detection and warning, extinguishers, signage, emergency lighting and the people who could be at risk. You then receive clear, prioritised recommendations to reduce the risk.
What is PAS 79?
PAS 79 is a recognised methodology for carrying out and recording fire risk assessments in a structured, consistent way. Our assessments follow it, so you can be confident the work is thorough and to a professional standard.
How long does a fire risk assessment take?
Depending on the size and complexity of your premises, the on-site inspection typically takes between 30 and 90 minutes. This is followed by a written report setting out our findings and recommendations.
What kinds of premises need a fire risk assessment?
Almost all non-domestic premises need one, including offices, shops, warehouses, factories, care homes, schools and places of worship. Landlords are also responsible for assessing the common areas of blocks of flats and other multi-occupied residential buildings.
What happens if I don’t have a valid fire risk assessment?
Failing to have a suitable assessment can lead to enforcement notices, fines or prosecution, and it may invalidate your insurance. More importantly, it leaves people at greater risk. A proper assessment is the simplest way to meet your duty and keep everyone safe.
What happens after my assessment?
You receive a written report with a prioritised action plan setting out anything that needs attention. As a full fire and security company, we can then help you put those actions in place, from alarms and extinguishers to emergency lighting and staff training.
