FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS
How often should a fire alarm system be serviced?
BS 5839 recommends that a competent engineer services your fire alarm system at least every six months. In between visits, the responsible person should test a manual call point weekly and record it in the log book. We offer servicing and maintenance packages to keep you compliant.
Are fire alarms a legal requirement for my business?
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, non-domestic premises must have appropriate fire detection and a means of warning everyone in the building. Whether you need a full system, and what type, is determined by your fire risk assessment. We can carry out that assessment and recommend the right system.
What is BS 5839?
BS 5839 is the British Standard covering the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of fire detection and alarm systems. Every system we install and maintain follows it, so you can be confident the work meets recognised national standards.
What does being BAFE accredited mean?
BAFE is an independent, third-party certification body for the fire safety industry. Our BAFE registration means our work is regularly assessed by an outside body as competent and compliant, giving you reassurance beyond our own word.
What is the difference between conventional and addressable fire alarm systems?
A conventional system tells you which zone or area an alarm has come from, while an addressable system pinpoints the exact device that has activated. Addressable systems are usually better suited to larger or more complex buildings, and we will recommend the right option for yours.
Do you install fire alarms in homes as well as businesses?
Yes. We design, install and maintain fire alarm systems for both commercial and domestic properties, tailoring each one to the size, layout and risk of the building.
Can you service a system that another company installed?
Yes. We are happy to take over the servicing and maintenance of most existing fire alarm systems, whoever installed them, and can advise if any part of the system needs upgrading.
What happens if my system develops a fault out of hours?
We provide a call-out service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, so if your system faults or activates unexpectedly you can always reach us for help over the phone or on site.
Can my fire alarm be connected to a monitoring centre?
Yes. We can connect your system to an accredited Alarm Receiving Centre so activations are monitored around the clock and the right response is triggered, even when the building is empty.
Can you add invacuation, lockdown or fire door hold back to my existing system?
In most cases, yes. If you have an addressable fire alarm system we can often add invacuation and lockdown features, or fire door hold back systems, by modifying the existing setup rather than starting from scratch.
What areas do you cover?
We are based in Burgess Hill, West Sussex, and install and maintain fire alarm systems across Sussex, Surrey, Kent and London.
We can also add invacuation or lockdown features and fire door hold back systems, either as part of a new installation or by modifying your existing addressable fire alarm system.
